In February, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a final rule modifying the use of Title X grant monies by explicitly prohibiting their use in health clinics where abortion is used as a method of family planning. That policy is called the ‘Protect Life Rule.’ The implementation of this rule was suspended by a court in April. That court’s decision was overturned in July and is being implemented as of August 19.
Now the nation’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood, no longer qualifies for the $60 million in Title X grant funding. The rule simply clarifies the longstanding Hyde Amendment prohibiting the use of Federal tax dollars in funding abortion. Much to the chagrin of the abortion industry, this latest move by HHS is consistent with what the majority of Americans want.
