The fall term of the U.S. Supreme Court has begun. Abortion activists and politicians fear the new conservative leaning court will take up one or more of the several abortion cases which have made their way through the legal pipeline from Louisiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. Justice Clarence Thomas has already made his view clear stating, “The Constitution itself is silent on abortion.” If the court decides to hear one or more of these abortion cases, there is a very strong possibility that the 1973 Supreme Court case legalizing abortion, Roe v Wade, will be modified, if not overturned. Should this happen, it would not make abortion illegal, it would simply put the issue back into the hands of individual states to decide for themselves whether abortion should be legal within their own borders.
