Gallup’s most recent poll shows 60% of all Americans believe abortion ought to be illegal or illegal in most cases. These pro-lifers include men and women of all ages and ethnicities. What is it about abortion that drives so many people to reject the Federal government’s 48 year-long stance for abortion?
Could it be a personal experience with abortion? Perhaps. Could it be the advances in ultrasound technology offering a window into womb? Maybe. Could it be the scientific advances revealing all people are fully human at all stages of maturity? Possibly. But underneath it all, that which gives ultimate meaning to a human is not science, technology or even personal experience but God. The belief that all humans are made in the image of God informs human dignity and haunts the American soul with the truth that all people are equally valuable without qualification.
