Jesus was born into a world so inhospitable that an innkeeper relegated His laboring mother to give birth amongst animals. Children were so disposable the earthly king ordered the mass killing of infant boys around Bethlehem in an attempt to secure his political power against the threat of a foretold newborn King.

The solution to the depravity and oppression today is the same as it was 2,000 years ago: Immanuel, God with Us. As the Gospel of Luke proclaims, Jesus is the One “To shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace” (Luke 1:79).
