An historic breach of judicial ethics occurred at the Supreme Court on Monday May 2nd over the anticipated abortion ruling, Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health. The case carries the potential of overturning the 1973 abortion ruling Roe v Wade. Georgetown Professor of Law Jonathan Turley referred to the leak as, “…one of the greatest breaches of security in the history of the Court.” The leaked SCOTUS ruling is significant because any justice can change their vote until the ruling is officially released. The law professor went on to say, “The only intent of such a leak is to trigger a response from outside of the Court.” Resulting public pressure could coerce a justice’s vote. The court currently appears to be split five to four in favor of sending the abortion issue back to the states to decide for themselves.
