Being pregnant isn’t easy, but to Grace walking the gritty streets of Brooklyn, it seemed impossible.
She is just 16-years-old. While her friends were busy making plans for summer, Grace’s life felt dismal. Not only that, her mom is so disappointed and just wants Grace to “solve the problem.”
Feeling stuck, abortion seemed like the only option. Grace wanted a relationship with her mom and hoped her life would return to normal.
Grace was searching for help online when she found CompassCare. She was served immediately through TeleCare. Grace’s TeleCare nurse listened closely as she shared her hurt and hardship, offering her an in-person diagnostic appointment at CompassCare’s Brooklyn office.
When Grace came to the CompassCare office in the heart of Brooklyn, the ultrasound revealed a healthy 13-week-old baby. Yet Grace was in a difficult situation. Her mom’s words echoed hard in her mind—“I can’t believe you were foolish enough to get pregnant.”
Grace was clearly moved by the ultrasound and agreed to take a week and consider her options.
Ten different people on the CompassCare team served Grace—from TeleCare nurses, to the medical team in Brooklyn, to schedulers in Rochester, to a missionary nurse serving in NYC from Upstate NY. Each of these passionate caregivers was praying for Grace and her baby.
Grace returned weeks later for a follow-up appointment. It was then that she told her nurse, “I really don’t want to have an abortion. I want to keep my baby!”
CompassCare connected Grace with valuable resources and people that will walk alongside her, even after she has her baby. While her life is different, it is now filled with hope.
