On May 7, Georgia joined the ranks of fourteen other States in 2019 considering bans on abortion after the baby’s heart starts beating. This follows on the heels of a similar Ohio bill signed on April 11. These bans typically carry exceptions for rape, incest, and the physical health of the mother.
On May 15, Alabama Governor, Madam Kay Ivey signed into law a total ban on abortions with the very narrow exception of the endangerment of mother’s life. If convicted of perpetrating abortion a doctor could face 99 years in prison.
States passing abortion bans do not so much see abortion as a woman’s issue as they do a human issue. If a free people’s government excludes certain people from protection under the law does that mean slavery is still alive? Thank you for the reminder, Alabama.
